Knight of Swords

Once they've decided what's true, they ride straight at it. That kind of commitment cuts through a problem fast, but they often skip checking whether they're right. When they're wrong, they do damage at the same speed.

What Knight of Swords means

This speed has a brave side. When a stranger on a train starts harassing someone, the Knight of Swords is on their feet before the rest of the car has looked up.

At its best the card is Galahad, the Round Table's purest knight, whose sword was swift and sure because his heart was clean. Speed does the least harm when the rider has no personal stake in winning.

When you'd see this

She fires off a two-paragraph email at 11 PM and settles the office dispute before morning.

Numbers in hand, the activist interrupts the first council member who starts to hedge.

In one sentence, a friend tells him his business plan won't work, then moves on to dessert.

  3. 3

  4. 4

Reversed

Four ways to read this card reversed. Which one depends on the question.

Blocked. Lance down, horse ready, and the charge never starts.

Internal. The crusade is real, and it is fought in one head.

Excess. Charging at every cause, so none of them get won.

Shadow. Certain they're right, and riding down whoever's in the way.

Ten numbered beats, then four people who carry them.

The Queen of Swords is just as direct as this knight but checks first. The Knight usually learns that from a few wrong charges.
