Page of Swords

Others dodge the awkward question, but this Page asks it. They recently discovered how sharp their mind is, so they want to see what it can do. Their questions are sincere because no hard truth has hurt them yet.

What Page of Swords means

Before signing a lease, this Page knocks on the upstairs neighbor's door to ask what the landlord is like. The card favors quiet fact-finding: asking whoever would know instead of trusting the official version.

Aimed at you, the same scrutiny comes from an inspector going through your records or from someone prying into your private life. The prying kind won't keep the details quiet.

When you'd see this

Fresh from joining debate club, a ninth grader argues both sides at every family dinner.

The new hire keeps asking why it's done this way, and the senior team runs out of good answers.

Since she started reading philosophy, the twelve-year-old catches the adults contradicting themselves.

What's in the picture

  3. 3

Wind and wild clouds in the skyThe wind blows hard, hair whipping back, trees bent, clouds piled high. The Page lives in the suit's element: air in motion, ideas moving fast.

Birds flying in the distanceBirds wheel in the sky behind, another symbol of air. The Page belongs in this landscape. Mental quickness is their native medium.

Reversed

Four ways to read this card reversed. Which one depends on the question.

Blocked. They've had the question since Tuesday but haven't asked it.

Internal. The questions pile up on the inside of your teeth.

Excess. Questions for everything, and no time left for an answer.

Shadow. Asking to catch people out rather than to learn.

Ten numbered beats, then four people who carry them.

The evidence the Page gathers goes before the King of Swords, who sits in judgment. The King's work depends on the Page's, because a ruling can only be as sound as the facts under it.
