What Queen of Pentacles means

Deep in tax season, an accountant still remembers that the youngest has the dentist on Thursday. The Queen of Pentacles often earns the family's money and runs the home, and gives both their due.

Between work and family, this queen keeps some time for themselves. If you drew the card for advice, the person due some care this week may be you, the one who usually gives it.

When you'd see this

Friends stop by his kitchen to exhale after hard weeks.

She sees her son is worn out before he does and puts a hot meal in front of him.

One coworker keeps the office stocked and running, down to the coffee filters.

What's in the picture

  1. 1

The Queen's throne in the gardenThe Queen sits on a throne in a blooming garden, a pentacle in the lap like something treasured. They aren't displaying it. They're caring for it.

  2. 2

Eyes on the pentacleTheir eyes are on the pentacle, not on the viewer. Someone paying attention to what's in front of them: the home, the meal, the body. They see what's there.

  3. 3

A small rabbit in the foregroundIn the grass nearby, a small rabbit: fertility, warmth, small living things well-tended. Their world is alive. Care flows outward, and living things respond.

  4. 4

Roses and greenery around the throneThe whole scene is roses and green abundance; the throne is carved with fruit and a goat head (earth). Earned material abundance: not excess, not display.

Reversed

Four ways to read this card reversed. Which one depends on the question.

Blocked. The table has been laid for six since noon.

Internal. Providing for the whole house and asking the house for nothing.

Excess. Feeding everyone so well that nobody learns to cook.

Shadow. Care handed out in portions that keep people coming back.

Ten numbered beats, then four people who carry them.

The Ten of Pentacles leaves a grandparent and a grandchild free to enjoy each other while the parents keep the household running. Usually this queen is one of those parents, and their work buys the others that freedom.

Reading a card is a skill, not a lookup

Every Pentacles card here is taught in full in Chapter V of Little Grimoire, with drills that make the meanings stick.
