What Page of Cups means
In love readings, the Page of Cups is often a crush in its first days, while you're working out what you feel and before you know whether it's mutual. The crush can be on a friend you've known for years, who says something ordinary one afternoon and suddenly looks different.
It can mean the birth of a baby. New parents discover unfamiliar feelings, starting with love for someone they met an hour ago.
When you'd see this
Writing a first poem at seven, a kid is amazed that feelings fit into words.
Her dream journal is full of strange images, and she treats each one as a message.
In art class, a student makes something weird on purpose and is proud of it.
What's in the picture
-
1
A fish popping out of the cupA small fish pokes its head out of the cup. The unexpected arrival of feeling, surfacing from the unconscious. You didn't go looking. It found you.
-
2
The Page's curious smileThe Page looks at the fish with a gentle smile: not fear, not confusion, open curiosity. "Huh, a fish. Tell me more." Open and not afraid of the strange.
-
3
The ornate, floral clothingThe Page wears a floral-patterned tunic: decorative, artistic, a little theatrical. The Wands Page was bright and brash. This one is whimsical and dreamy.
-
4
The ocean behind themThe sea stretches behind the Page: the vast unconscious, the depth of feeling they're just starting to explore. Toes at the water's edge. Everything is ahead.
Reversed
Four ways to read this card reversed. Which one depends on the question.
Blocked. The fish has spoken, and the Page hasn't found the words for it.
Internal. A year of listening to the fish, and not a word out.
Excess. They announce every feeling the moment it arrives but check none.
Shadow. The dream stays perfect because they never test it.
Where it sits in the suit
The Suit of Cups, ace to king
Ten numbered beats, then four people who carry them.
The Knight and the King of Cups wear the fish as emblems, a pattern on the Knight's tunic and a pendant on the King. For the Page the feeling is still alive: the fish has turned to look them in the eye.
Reading a card is a skill, not a lookup
