Three of Cups
Celebrating with your people feels nothing like celebrating alone. You raise your cups together and dance without caring how it looks. Everyone in the circle belongs there, and the joy grows because they share it.

What Three of Cups means
It's the happiest card in Cups. With one of the three dancers turned away from you, you're looking at the circle from its edge, close enough to step in. Their cups go up together in a toast that's also a pledge, the kind friends make to keep showing up for each other.
The card often marks an ending that went well, when something you worked at closes with plenty to show for it. Comfort and healing belong to it too. The friends you dance with here are the ones who turn up with food after a funeral.
When you'd see this
Three hours into your birthday dinner, the whole table is laughing until someone cries.
At the family reunion, for once, everyone is glad to be there.
When the anthology finally comes out, the writing group throws a party.
What's in the picture
-
1
Three figures dancing, cups raisedThree figures dance in a circle, raising their cups high. Uninhibited joy: not polite, not restrained. Friendship, community, and shared happiness.
-
2
The harvest at their feetFruit, grapes, and a pumpkin lie at their feet. A harvest: the emotional seeds planted earlier have produced something real. Abundance, tangible and shared.
-
3
Three cups raised togetherNot two cups (a pair) but three: a group. The Ace was a solo offering, the 2 a partnership. The 3 expands to community, beyond just you and one other person.

The circle formationThe three figures form a circle: no one at the head, no one left out. Equal, inclusive celebration. Everyone gives, everyone receives, everyone belongs.
Reversed
Four ways to read this card reversed. Which one depends on the question.
Blocked. Three chairs, three cups, and everyone checking the time.
Internal. Glad to see them, and the gladness never makes it to your face.
Excess. Every night is the toast again, and the cups are just cups.
Shadow. Friends you keep because they remember who you were.
Where it sits in the suit
The Suit of Cups, ace to king
Ten numbered beats, then four people who carry them.
The circle on this card comes back bigger at the Ten, as a household celebrating under a rainbow of cups. The suit gets there by way of grief at the Five, where someone stands over three spilled cups.
Reading a card is a skill, not a lookup
