Ten of Cups

The people you love are happy, and so are you. A rainbow of cups arches over you and your partner, the dancing kids and the cottage on the hill. Money has little to do with it.

What Ten of Cups means

The children haven't noticed the rainbow. They're busy dancing, but they're as happy as the adults beside them looking up in wonder. A family can be happy in different ways at once, as when you cry through a graduation while your kid is already planning the party.

Friends who chose each other belong under this rainbow as much as relatives do. Sometimes the card points to the place itself, the town or neighborhood you're glad to call home.

When you'd see this

One ordinary Tuesday at dinner, it hits you that this is the family you wanted.

The kids are grown and scattered across three cities, but every summer they choose to come home.

In a cramped two-bedroom rental, the four of you are happier than you've ever been.

What's in the picture

  1. 1

The rainbow of ten cups in the skyTen cups arc across the sky in a rainbow, the universal symbol of promise and wholeness. Not a shelf of trophies: a canopy of joy over an entire life.

  2. 2

The couple with arms raisedA couple stands with arms raised toward the rainbow: open, grateful, receiving. They're not holding cups. They're living inside the abundance.

  3. 3

The children dancing beside themTwo children dance and play nearby: legacy. The fulfillment extends beyond the couple to the next generation. What they built is alive in others.

  4. 4

The home and peaceful landscapeA cottage in a green, gentle landscape with a river. This is home: not a castle, not a palace, but warmth and belonging. The journey ends in connection.

Reversed

Four ways to read this card reversed. Which one depends on the question.

Blocked. A rainbow over the house, but everyone has stayed indoors.

Internal. The house is full and the feeling is happening in one person.

Excess. A happiness so complete that any small trouble feels like the end.

Shadow. A home so perfect that nobody in it can admit to being unhappy.

Ten numbered beats, then four people who carry them.

Behind the Two of Cups' pledging pair stands a red-roofed house on a hill, and a house like it sits beyond this couple. The Ten shows the Two's bond after years of keeping it: the hand that reached across the cups has become an arm around a waist.
